1 DAY TRIP TO NGAMBA ISLAND CHIMPANZEE SANCTUARY
Ngamba island is one of the numerous islands found on L.Victoria and it is on this island that a chimpanzee sanctuary is located majorly for homeless, abandoned and orphaned chimpanzees.
Reaching this island requires taking a boat ride on Lake Victoria which is Africa’s largest continental lake. The island is managed by a non-governmental organization and kept safe for short primate tours in Uganda. If a traveler has limited time or funds to chimpanzee trekking in Uganda, then Ngamba Island is such a good option.
So this one day trip to this sanctuary will start early enough after having your cup of tea then you will be driven to the Ngamba sanctuary offices in Entebbe town for registration and making the neccessary payments and a short briefing. Then from here you will drive to water front beach from where you will take a boat to this island. This boat cruise takes about 1.5 – 2 hours to get to the island.
You will be welcomed by the staff here at the sanctuary and you will be3 briefed about the vwhole sanctuary and its background. From here you will be taken to the actual dwelling places of these primates.Ngamba Island has a total of 50 chimpanzees living within this gazetted area.
You will spend time learning about these man’s closest relatives and you will participate in some of the activities in the island for instance feeding the chimps, cleaning the island and much more. The staff here will explain the challenges, opportunities, and solutions of conservation of Chimpanzees in Africa. You will have lunch at the island and later on embark on the boat ride back to Entebbe. Arriving back at the water front beach where you will again meet your safari guide for a transfer back to your place of residence.
