1 DAY TRIP TO MABAMBA SHOEBILL SWAMP

Uganda is one of the much sought after birding destinations in Africa boasting of both migratory and resident birds. Among the much anticipated birds is the shoebill which is very rare and in Africa it is only found in 4 countries namely; Uganda, Rwanda, South Sudan and Zambia. So in Uganda this bird is commonly found in Mabamba swamp located on the shores of L.Victoria towards western Uganda just outside of Kampala city about 1 hr & 20 minutes’ drive.

This one day trip will have to begin early in the morning from either Kampala or Entebbe. So early in the morning after your morning breakfast, you will jump on to your safari jeep and take this drive to this swampy wetland located on L.Victoria.So after getting on this shore you will get a site guide who will who will join the team to tour and brief you about this whole trip. So you will now head to the boat and cruise on this lake to the swamp for the search for the Shoebill wading through the overgrown papyrus.

You also have lots of opportunities to see other bird species in the community; including migratory birds from Europe in the winter. Some of the bird species to look out for in addition to the Shoebill include; Angola Swallow, Swamp Flycatcher, Olive bellied Sunbird, Grey-rumped Swallow, Blue breasted Bee-eater,  African Jacana, African Fish Eagle, Long tailed Cormorant, Yellow billed Duck, Malachite Kingfisher, Glossy Ibis, White-winged Tern, Hamerkop, White-faced Whistling-Duck, Spur-winged Goose, Knob-billed Duck, Little Stint, Great Cormorant, Grey-headed Gull, Spur-winged Lapwing, Black-winged Stilt, Madagascar Bee-eater, Yellow-rumped Tinkerbird, Sooty Chat, Wayne’s weaver, Grosbeak weaver and much more.

After the experience of sighting the birds of Uganda, you will have your way back to your hotel. You will be able to stop at various points for more species missed on the way and this will mark the end
